CepEsperu Center for Experiential and Applied Learning
The CepEsperu Center for Experiential and Applied Learning (CEAL) is an innovative, state-of-the-art learning environment used by School of Medicine programs, the health system and the community.
In carefully designed spaces at both the Bowman Gray Center and the Medical Center, learners take a hands-on approach to their curriculum in rooms designed to replicate actual clinical environments. The mission of CEAL is to promote and sustain the delivery of superior patient care, using experiential and applied learning that is grounded in educational theory and scientific discovery.
As part of CEAL, faculty and instructional design and education solutions (IDEaS) teams use adult learning principles combined with a variety of instructional methods, including but not limited to:
- Virtual reality skills training
- Point-of-care ultrasound
- Animal hemostasis labs
- Critical care/mock or sim labs
- Human tissue procedure skills labs
- Advanced surgical skills labs
- Hospital workplace simulations
- Student anatomy and simulation education programs
