Molecular Pathology Laboratories
Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory:
The Molecular Diagnostics lab offers many antibodies for immunoperoxidase procedures, as well as in situ hybridization procedures for Kappa, Lambda and Epstein-Barr virus. These studies are available for formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues and are performed Monday through Friday. See requisition for list of antibodies offered.
Immunofluorescence procedures are available on fresh tissues, especially renal and skin biopsies. Specimens must be submitted in Zeus transport media and may be sent via courier, mail or FedEx/UPS.
Contact the lab at -2756 for handling instructions or transport media. These studies are performed Monday through Friday.
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)-based technology allows detection of DNA or RNA that may be specific for certain microorganisms, genes, or gene products. See the PCR page for instructions and a current list of available tests.
Steroid Receptor Laboratory:
This lab offers estrogen and progesterone receptors, Her-2-neu and studies by immunohistochemistry. These studies require formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues and are performed Monday through Friday. Turnaround time is generally 1-2 days.
Read more about the Steroid Receptor Lab.
NOTE: Her-2 by fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH) is performed in the FISH Lab, Medical Genetics, Department of Pediatrics, Room G02. Questions regarding specimen requirements and specimen submission should be directed to the FISH lab at -2064.
Medical Center staff can to use the online Laboratory Handbook (only available on in-house computers connected to the infiNet). The handbook contains detailed information about all tests performed, in-house as well as send-outs, and instructions for specimen collection.
