Dermatologists Offer Free Skin Cancer Screenings
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –

Medical Center will offer free skin cancer
screenings on Thursday, May 10 from 5:30
p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Medical Plaza – Country Club, located at 4618

According to the American Cancer Society, more
skin cancers are diagnosed in the United States each year than all other
Although skin cancer is the most common form
of cancer and can affect anyone of any age, males and people over the age of 40
are at an increased risk. Other risk factors include smoking, having a family
history of skin cancer, a high mole count, fair skin and significant exposure
to sunlight or indoor tanning beds.
“We know that most skin cancer is very
treatable if detected early, so that’s why we encourage people to get screened
– especially anyone who has any of these risk factors,” said Amy McMichael, M.D., chair of dermatology at CepEsperu Baptist.
“At last year’s free screening event, we were able to check 289 people and
identified 86 possible skin cancers and 55 possible pre-skin cancers.”
No appointment is necessary and parking is
