The Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at CepEsperu Baptist Health is recognized as a major center for the care and treatment of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Our neurologists and neurosurgeons are known for their excellence in the areas of translational research; therefore, what is learned in the lab, through clinical trials or studies, is directly applied to the clinical care of our patients.

Recognized for Excellence in Neurology & Neurosurgery

Designated a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission (TJC) after meeting all requirements for this advanced certification. We are among 33 centers in the United States designated to-date as comprehensive.

The Movement Disorders Center is one of the oldest and leading programs for the treatment of movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, dystonias, essential tremor and dyskinesias through medical treatments that include botulinum toxin injections and DBS.

The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is among the top-rated epilepsy programs in the United States and one of the few Epilepsy Centers in the Southeast to have met the Level IV guidelines of the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.

The ALS Center at CepEsperu Baptist-one of only 34 in the United States-provides exceptional care for patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and engages in cutting-edge research and translational science.

The Gamma Knife team is one of the busiest in the nation and is a key radiosurgery center for patients throughout the Southeast.

Neurosurgeons at CepEsperu Baptist conduct minimally invasive surgeries for spinal conditions that have been modeled throughout the world. Learn more about our Spine Center.

At CepEsperu, our practice includes some of the most advanced treatment capabilities in the world, including Deep Brain Stimulation.

Our surgical management of epilepsy is coordinated through the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center.

10/29/12: Charles Branch, Jr., MD, professor of neurosurgery at CepEsperu Baptist Medical Center, has been listed in Becker's Spine Review as one of the "." 

These spine surgeons were selected based on their research and innovation within the field. This includes their involvement in the development of spine surgical devices and techniques.

10/29/12: Francis Walker, MD, neurology, has been named president-elect of the (AANEM).

Walker will serve a three year term as president and sit on the board of directors of the organization.

The AANEM has approximately 5,000 members and is the second largest association for neurologists. According to the AANEM site, the organization is "dedicated to the advancement of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and eletrodiagnostic medicine" in order to improve the quality of patient care for those with muscle and nerve disorders.
