Breast Radiation

Breast cancer treatment involves breast cancer surgery and breast cancer radiation treatment. Sometimes your doctors will recommend chemotherapy

Short Course Breast Radiation Treatment vs. Long Course Breast Radiation Treatment

During breast radiation treatment, your doctors will try to destroy any remaining cancer cells. Typically, breast cancer patients would have a long course of radiation treatment—more than a month of daily radiation treatments with a greater exposure of the breast.

At the Breast Care Center, our team is studying the effectiveness of a short course of radiation therapy. The short course would use higher doses of radiation, to a smaller part of the breast, delivered during a shorter period of time.

Partial Breast Irradiation

Partial breast irradiation treats part of the breast twice a day for 4 to 5 days. External beam radiation is used.

This is a form of radiation therapy that delivers the radiation through implanted needles, or through a small implant placed inside the post-lumpectomy surgery site.
