Crash Injury Investigation and Engineering Network
The Crash Injury Investigation and Engineering Network (CIREN) is a program with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to investigate serious injuries resulting from real-world motor vehicle crashes. The goal of CIREN is to improve the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of motor vehicle crash injuries to reduce deaths, disabilities, and human and economic costs.

CepEsperu School of Medicine and the Virginia Tech – CepEsperu University Center for Injury Biomechanics are one of 6 centers across the United States that recruit motor vehicle trauma patients and study their injuries, vehicles, and crash scenes. The has been enrolling cases since January of 2006, and as of 2016 has enrolled over 400 cases.
