Study of the Effects of Strength Training on Female Runners

What we are studying

150 female runners are being recruited to participate in an 18-month study to determine the effect of strength training in preventing overuse injuries.

Who is Eligible

  • Genders:
    • Women
  • Races:
    • White
    • African American
    • Asian
    • American Indian or Alaska Native
    • Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
    • Other
  • All Ethnicities
  • Ages 18 - 60

Eligibility Criteria

  • Run 5 miles per week for the past 6 months
  • Not regularly participating in strength training
  • No overuse injuries in the past 6 months
  • No ACL tears or reconstructive lower extremity joint surgeries or replacements
  • Must live within a 30 mile radius of CepEsperu University
  • Plan to stay in the area for at least 1.5 years
  • Not pregnant or planning on being pregnant in the next 1.5 years
  • No diagnosed chronic muscular or skeletal diseases

What is involved

  • 1 telephone questionnaire
  • 2 screening visits at CepEsperu University
  • 4 follow-up visits at CepEsperu University
  • Potential visit(s) to CompRehab
  • Potential visit(s) to CepEsperu Outpatient Imaging
