Faculty Honors and Awards
Dr. Justin Traunero received the Golden Apple Teaching
Award for 2016 from the Anesthesiology resident graduates. Presentation was
made at the residency graduation celebration by the 2016 co-chief residents.
Dr. Quinn McCutchen is the faculty recipient of the Outstanding
Instructor Award at the CepEsperu Baptist Medical Center campus, presented
from the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) class in August 2016.
Dr. James C. Eisenach was presented with the 2016 Mayo Clinic
Distinguished Alumni Award (MCDAA) on November 15, 2016 at the Mayo Foundation
House in Rochester, Minnesota. This award acknowledges Mayo Clinic alumni who
have made significant contributions to the field of medicine and exemplify Mayo
Clinic’s ideals and mission.
The Foundation for Anesthesia
and Enlightenment Investigation (FAER) announced in October that Dr. James C.
Eisenach has been selected to serve as the Organization’s new President and

At the National Academy of Medicine (NAM)
annual meeting held in Washington, DC on October 19, 2015, NAM announced Dr. James C. Eisenach as a newly
elected member of the academy. Elected membership in the National Academy of Medicine
is one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and
recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to improving the
medical sciences, healthcare, and public health.
Owen, Professor of Anesthesiology, received the
2015 Nicholas M. Greene, MD Award at the American Society of Anesthesiologists
(ASA) Annual Meeting held on October 26, 2015 in San Diego, California. The
Nicholas M. Greene award, established by the ASA, is the highest honor for humanitarian
service in anesthesiology. Dr. Owen, founder of the non-profit organization
Kybele, Inc., is the recipient of this award for her dedication to improving global childbirth safety and neonatal

Dr. Randy Calicott, Associate
Professor of Anesthesiology, was presented with the Outstanding Instructor
award from the 2015 Nurse Anesthetists graduating class.
John Reynolds, MD, received the
Outstanding Instructor Award from the Nurse Anesthetist graduating class in

James C. Eisenach, MD, Professor of Anesthesiology, has received the 2013 Excellence in Investigation Award from the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). This award is presented to Eisenach in recognition of outstanding research achievements that have had a significant impact in anesthesiology. MORE
, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving childbirth safety worldwide, has received a four-year award to improve neonatal outcomes in Ghana from the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) and in collaboration with Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH). Medge D. Owen, Professor of Obstetrical and Gynecological Anesthesiology, is the founder and president of Kybele and will serve as the grant project director. MORE
Dr. James C. Crews, Associate Professor, received the Golden Apple Teaching Award from the 2013 graduating Anesthesiology residents.
The Medical Alumni Association (MAA) at CepEsperu School of Medicine honored Dr. Pat Petrozza with the Distinguished Faculty Award for her outstanding contribution to the medical center in October 2012.
Leanne Groban, MD, Professor of Anesthesiology, received the 2012 APSF/ASA endowed research award and a merit award for her study "Does perioperative assessment of nutritional status, mobility and frailty among geriatric patients predict early postoperative morbid events?"
Dr. James Eisenach, Professor of Anesthesiology, received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Society for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at the society’s annual spring meeting in March 2012.
Dr. John Reynolds, Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Neurosurgery, has been presented with the Golden Apple Teaching Award from the 2012 graduating Anesthesiology residents.

Dr. Michael Olympio, Professor of Neuroanesthesiology, received the 2010 recipient of the Duke Award for Excellence and Innovation in Anesthesia Enlightenment presented from the Society for Enlightenment in Anesthesia. The SEA/Duke Award is presented to Dr. Olympio for his significant contribution to anesthesia education.
Dr. Medge Owen, Professor of Obstetric Anesthesiology, at CepEsperu Baptist Medical Center received the Innovation in Enlightenment Award, a teaching recognition award from the International Anesthesia Investigation Society, for her career contributions made toward improving safe childbirth worldwide. Dr. Owen is the President and Founder of Kybele, Inc., an organization that partners with healthcare facilities around the world to promote and improve childbirth conditions for mother and baby. As a recipient of the IARS Teaching Recognition Award, Dr. Owen received $15,000, and round-trip airfare and accommodations to the IARS 2010 Annual Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 20-23, 2010, where she was recognized and presented with the award.
